Tricks I Learned from Amy Bunger

I am going to miss Amy's classes so much.  Her guides are wonderful and hopefully will be available for quite some time to come but the tidbits you pick up being around her are invaluable.

Here's one example.  I am now stitching the background down the side of House #5.  Obviously the full pattern does not fit.  What's a stitcher to do?

Use stick'ems or pieces of paper to create the space you are stitching.  You can see I blocked off the eight canvas threads that make up the blue area down the side.  I don't have to constantly look at the stitch diagram and count and recount.  Easy peasy.

Back to Halloween House Row

Back to Halloween House Row by Melissa Shirley.  I am stitching this using a guide created by Amy Bunger.  It is available for purchase at amybunger.com.

Halloween House Row by Melissa Shirley

Good morning!  There is not much to report here.  When I'm stitching I am stitching the background on this big'n.   Amy Bunger chose the perfect stitch and thread.  It's Alternating Stones using one strand of NPI silk.  There is a lot of area to cover.  I'll just keep plugging away.

Halloween House Row

I am certainly skipping around on projects around here.   I put the Halloween House Row from Melissa Shirley back on the stand.  I am using a stitch guide that is available from Amy Bunger.  It's so fun to stitch.

Roof of House #3
The background stitch is Alternating Stones.  I am using one strand of silk.  It is perfect for this canvas.

I stitched the stones leading to the houses and filled in the grass.  I am using three strands of Dinky Dyes in the Cobblestone stitch.  Pretty cute!

The stones for House #5 were a bit different.  The guide calls for a different thread but I goofed and used the wrong one.  I'm not sure it's worth taking out and redoing.

House #5 of Halloween House Row

This is another cutie from the mind of Amy Bunger.  I love the roof.  It's a Fern Stitch variation using three strands of silk.

Halloween House Row by Melissa Shirley

This is House #2 of the Melissa Shirley's Halloween House Row.  I'm using Amy Bunger's stitch guide.  This is a fun one to stitch.

Overview
The pale mauve walls are Sandy's Slide with two strands of overdyed floss.  The walls around the window are Checkered Cross using a twisted cotton thread.

The foundation is the Woven Stitch in a twisted cotton thread.  Luscious color.

The roof is the Double Stitch using two strands of Burmilana.  The window arch is Criss Cross Hungarian.

Roofing on Sunday

This is the roof of the fifth house. I outlined the black with three strands of silk.   The fern stitch on the lower right is from the guide.  The upper shingle is my idea.  I think I will stick with the guide.  That Amy knows her business!
