Christmas and Ewe and Eye

Here is Friday afternoon and evening's output.  I continued the sweater stitch on the Kathy Shenkel tennis round I am stitching for my favorite tennis player.  It is the Oblong Crossed Stitch variation from
The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Canvas Embroidery, Vol. 2.  I bought both volumes at The Needle Works and haven't looked back.  The best thing is the picture of the stitch next to the diagram.  This is actually diagrammed out as a horizontal stitch, but I turned the canvas and the diagram on their respective sides.

Finished the racquet

Fuzzy overview

Of course, I spent a little time messing around with my new canvas.  Tried a stitch from Stitch Landscapes for the water.  I like the stitch, but not sure it goes here.

In perspective
Have a Happy Stitching Weekend!

  1. Steph I like the thread you used for the water and I like the stitch. But I think the stitch is too big for that area. In my opinion, the stitches will be out of proportion to the trees directly above the water. But remember, it is just my opinion.

  2. I totally agree. Maybe use it for the sky or one of the grassy hills. Thanks for the input.

  3. Hi Steph,
I agree. I thought it looked too heavy. Maybe less ply would open it up more.
Your tennis ornament is coming out great.
I started Jake' ornament last night.

    1. Thanks. I hope I will see progress on Jake's ornament soon. Did you check out cute Katherine's on bootsandbeads.blogspot.com?

  4. Hi Step,

I just wanted to say thanks for the comments. I don't know how you do it, with the Thanksgiving House and all of the Ewe and Eye canvases going at the same time. I am just trying to plow through one big canvas so all of the little ones helps a lot with the sense of accomplishment.

My blog is not letting me reply

    1. I noticed that Jane is having trouble with hers. I wonder what is up with Google.

  5. Continue to love your posts! What is the brown fiber used on the tennis ornament using the Oblong Cross stitch?

    1. The lighter brown is three strands of DMC floss. The dark brown is DMC perle cotton size 8 color 938. Is that what you needed to know?

    2. It appeared to be flat and I was intrigued! Gotta love DMC

  6. I agree, the stitch seems a little big for the space, though it a great stitch. Love the blue.
